Canadian Petroleum Hall of Fame

The Canadian Petroleum Hall of Fame celebrates 20 years of honouring the industry’s builders this November — and it has a couple of special additions to this year's induction event.
That includes honouring one special inductee, chosen by the Hall's board of directors, who best exemplifies the attributes of the men and women who make up the Hall's 130-plus honoured member ranks.
That person's identity will be revealed in early October, said board chair Bill Whitelaw.
"There was obviously no shortage of ideal candidates to be that symbolic inductee...in fact, we had quite the time settling on one person," he explained. "But when we let everyone know who it is, no one will be surprised at the logic of our choice."
That individual will join the existing slate of eight inductees already announced in late summer to be honoured Nov. 10 at a gala reception at SAIT — itself celebrating a special anniversary, said Whitelaw.
"We're very honoured to be having our induction ceremonies on the SAIT campus and to be part of the school's 100th anniversary celebrations, given how SAIT has been such a key player in shaping our sector's success."
Instead of a sit-down dinner this year, the Hall of Fame has opted for a cocktail-reception style event. This will allow for more mingling and the evening's other highlight: guided tours of SAIT's energy training infrastructure and engagement with students.
"It's an obvious connection to make...many of our inductees are either SAIT graduates or supporters. It's also important to connect the students to the folks who had a big hand in building this sector."
The other inductees to be honoured this year include David Collyer, Brett Wilson, Greg Stringham, Troy Ducharme, George Goruk, Peter Tertzakian, Albert Mayland and William (Don) Hunt.
Tickets are $150.
